The Speech Garden provides speech-language pathology diagnostics and treatment to children ages 2-18 in Charlotte, NC. Currently, The Speech Garden is in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) organization.

Mission Statement:

The Mission of The Speech Garden is to improve the quality of life for children and their families by developing communicative competence by evaluating current strengths and needs and developing communication strategies to improve receptive, social, and expressive language, oral-motor, articulation, fluency, and literacy skills in individual, small group, and/or classroom-based services.

It is estimated that 10% of the population may have one of many types of communication disorders. Delays of communication can affect one of several areas: receptive language (ability to understand and follow directions), expressive language (ability to verbally express oneself), social language (ability to interact appropriately with others), or articulation (pronunciation of sounds of speech).

Untreated delays in any area can cause difficulties in academic performance, reduced self-esteem, and lower social skills and abilities. In addition, disorders such as autism can have a profound impact on one’s ability to communicate and function in our society. Please see The American Speech-Hearing Association’s Web site for more information at www.asha.org.
